Tension In Sokoto Communities as Bello Turji Issues New Threáts

Fear has taken hold of Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State following fresh threats from notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, which have reportedly driven residents of Bafarawa town to abandon their homes.

According to information gathered by Naturenex, Turji has extended his warnings to neighbouring Kamara, Arume, and Kagara villages, issuing an ultimatum for residents to vacate by Sunday or face violent repercussions.

A source from one of the affected villages told Punch that the new wave of threats has sparked widespread panic, leading families to hurriedly flee in fear of imminent attacks.

In addition, several local residents lamented what they described as a lack of decisive government intervention, with growing suspicions about Turji’s protection by unidentified individuals.

They urged both state and federal authorities to act swiftly and decisively to end the violence and bring those responsible to justice.

A displaced resident from Bafarawa remarked, “This is beyond just another attack. These threats are calculated and organized. If nothing is done, more communities will fall under siege.”

Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmed Rufai, confirmed that security operatives had been dispatched to the affected communities.

In his words, “Although we have not received any formal report regarding the incident, we have deployed officers to the area over the past three days. The security operatives are on the ground and are prepared to tackle any threat to peace and security.”
