Terrorism: Governor Zulum Halts Fuel Sales In Bama LGA Over Rising Security Concerns

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has announced an immediate ban on the sale of petrol within Bama Local Government Area, covering both Bama town and the Banki border community. This move comes as part of intensified efforts to curb the lingering security threats posed by insurgents in the state.

According to reports from Daily Trust, Bama, situated in the northeastern region of Borno State, shares borders with the Republic of Chad and Cameroon. The decision to halt fuel sales, as gathered from Channels Television, was made following thorough consultations between the state government and security agencies operating in the area.

Dauda Iliya, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Zulum, confirmed the development in a statement released on Saturday, May 10. He explained that the measure was introduced as a tactical component of the government’s broader counter-insurgency strategy.

Speaking further, Governor Zulum emphasized that the enforcement of the ban would be firm and impartial. He warned that violators, regardless of social status or connections, would face legal consequences.

“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect,” Zulum declared.

“Let me make it clear—there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban. Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” he added.

Meanwhile, amid ongoing security challenges in Borno and Benue states, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has directed a review and overhaul of military tactics. Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru disclosed that the Federal Government is set to reassess and enhance its strategic approach to counter the wave of violent attacks.

Badaru stressed that refining military strategy holds greater significance than the recently held two-day national security summit organized by the Nigerian Senate.
