Tinubu to embark on 2-day visit to Katsina, Buhari’s home state

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a notable two-day working visit to Katsina State, the political stronghold of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. The visit, scheduled for Friday, May 2, 2025, marks Tinubu’s first official trip to Buhari’s home state since taking office nearly two years ago.

Confirming the development, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, revealed that Tinubu’s itinerary includes meetings with top state officials and security agencies to review the region’s security situation.

Beyond official duties, Tinubu will also be attending a private affair — the wedding of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s daughter — on Saturday, May 3, before wrapping up his stay.

In addition, the president is expected to commission a series of developmental projects during the visit. Among them is the Katsina Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, an initiative credited to Governor Radda’s administration. The centre is said to be equipped with tractors and other farming machinery assembled locally.

Announcing the milestone on social media, Isa Miqdad, chairman of Katsina Local Government, wrote: “The Katsina State Agricultural Mechanisation Centre is scheduled for commissioning by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, 2nd May 2025. This innovative project is being carried out by Gov @dikko_radda, with tractors and mechanised farming equipment being assembled by the local community. Well done to our visionary Governor.”

President Tinubu will also commission a newly constructed 24-kilometre dual carriageway, another achievement credited to the state government’s ongoing infrastructural drive.

This high-profile visit comes amid speculation about a possible rift between Tinubu and Buhari, two political heavyweights whose alliance was pivotal in unseating the then-incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan during Nigeria’s historic 2015 general election.

Their partnership, which saw the merger of Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Tinubu’s Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and other parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC), changed the trajectory of Nigerian politics. However, recent whispers of tension between the two statesmen have lingered, especially after reports suggested Buhari might follow in the footsteps of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai by parting ways with the ruling APC.
