UK PM Starmer, Elon Musk Clash Over ‘Civil War’ Remarks
Tech mogul and owner of the social media platform X, Elon Musk, has clashed with UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, after the X owner controversial claim that Britain is on the brink of a ‘civil war’.
The tech mogul stirred controversy with Downing Street as he attributed the riots across UK cities to the influence of social media in exacerbating the turmoil.
Musk, who also heads Tesla, suggested that “civil war is inevitable” in the UK after six consecutive days of far-right violence and chaos on British streets.
Starmer’s official spokesman sharply countered Musk’s claim, stating, “Comments like that are unjustified, as what we’re witnessing is organized violent thuggery that has no place on our streets or online.”
The clash intensified when Musk replied to a post from the Prime Minister condemning attacks on mosques and Muslim communities, saying, “Shouldn’t you be concerned about attacks on *all* communities?”
The exchange occurred as violence continued to escalate in various parts of the UK, with police being targeted in cities like Belfast and Plymouth, leading to numerous arrests.
In response to the unrest, five countries, including Nigeria, have issued safety advisories for their citizens residing in or visiting the UK.
