During the flagging off of the reconstruction of Alode-Onne Road and the construction of internal roads, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, took a swipe at a Chinese man he gave a road contract to, stating that they pretend not to hear English.
Wike added that they only pretend not to hear English, but they do. He further urged the Chinese man to complete his road project and promised to pay them their money in full by next week.
According to him, “You people pretend as if you don’t understand English, but it’s a lie.” I thank God that you hear English because this is the first time I see Chinese people speaking English. Let me tell you, I’m not interested whether you’re from world power or you’re not from world power. This job is for six months; the money we’ve paid you and we will be paying you again next week. “You have to finish this job.”
After saying this, the Chinese man who stood in front of him nodded in agreement as he smiled back to his position.
