Why I Bombed Mosque With Petrol – Culprit

A man who was arrested after he bombed a mosque in Kano State during early morning prayers on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, has told men of the state police command that he carried out the act because family members who cheated him over inheritance were inside.

The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who announced the incident on his Facebook wall, said the man, Shafi’u Abubakar, aged 38 years, was arrested shortly after the mosque was bombed.

During the attack that occurred in Gadan Village, Gezawa Local Government Area of the state, 24 worshippers, comprising 20 male adults and four male children, were injured and are said to be receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.

A forensic analysis carried out by various police formations at the scene of the incident revealed that a petrol bomb was used by the man to attack the mosque.

The command wrote: “The principal suspect has been identified and arrested, he is Shafi’u Abubakar, aged 38 years.

“He said his action was purely in hostility following prolonged family disagreement over sharing of inheritance and those he alleged to have cheated him were in the mosque at that moment and he did that for his voice to be heard.”

According to the command, while he is currently in police custody helping with more investigations into the matter, he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
