The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made a striking revelation about the political tensions in Rivers State. The former Rivers governor disclosed that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had consulted him before considering a State of Emergency in the state, he would not have supported the decision.
Wike, speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday, clarified that he is not personally at odds with the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, but expressed strong disapproval of the emergency rule idea.
The FCT Minister stated, “I made it clear that this impunity will not stand, so what is happening in PDP is what I call undertakers because I see no reason why you will put yourself under that kind of crisis.”
He emphasized that the authority to declare and lift a State of Emergency lies solely with the President. “I don’t have any crisis with him (Fubara). I’m not the President who declared a State of Emergency; if Mr President had called me, I wouldn’t have agreed to the State of Emergency.”
Wike added, “He knows when to lift, he has everything on his table, I don’t know. I have never supported it.”
However, he acknowledged that the move was intended to protect the embattled governor from imminent impeachment. “But what I said was that the declaration of state of emergency was to save the governor because he was almost impeached.”
Expressing disappointment, Wike accused Governor Fubara of becoming a pawn for his adversaries. “I don’t have crisis rather the governor, unknown to me, gave himself to be the tool for those who couldn’t fight me to fight me.”
