Four men, two women, and two female students traveling along the Kabba-Lokoja road in Kogi state fell victim to an armed ambush yesterday at approximately 4:30 PM.
The group, members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses community returning home from a church event, were kidnapped while journeying towards Lokoja when they encountered masked assailants near a dense forest area.
Elupo Eliazer, whose spouse is among those captured, revealed details about the ordeal during interviews with local media.
He disclosed that the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N30 million before negotiating downward to N2.6 million. Mr. Eliazer also shared his regret over choosing separate transportation; if he hadn’t done so, he might be sharing this harrowing experience alongside his partner.
“They called to demand first for N30 million but later reduced it to N2.6 million after negotiation.
“My wife and I were travelling to attend our church convention scheduled for Lokoja, but I decided to follow a different vehicle as the Toyota bus could not contain all of us, else I would have been in the car with her,” Eliazer told Vanguard news paper.
