FG Reacts To Alleged Abuse Of Female Soldier By Senior Officers
The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has taken a firm stance against the alleged sexual harassment of Nigerian Army soldier Ruth Ogunleye by senior officers, including Col. IB Abdulkareem, Col. GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo.
In response to the viral TikTok video where Ogunleye detailed accusations of misconduct, Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye expressed deep concern and pledged swift intervention.
In an official statement, the minister called on the Nigerian Army to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the serious allegations, commending the military’s reputation for discipline, decorum, and comportment.
She urged the army’s high command to ensure a thorough inquiry and take appropriate action against the alleged perpetrators, underlining the imperative to address gender-based maltreatment.
Minister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that women should not endure unfair treatment, stigmatization, or harassment, particularly in a society that values gender balance and fairness.
She highlighted her ministry’s commitment to eliminating gender disparity and violence against women, reaffirming her determination to protect the interests of Nigerian women.
