Ifeajunna was well known entity in Nigeria before joining the military.

He was a graduate of science in one of the Nigeria prestigious university (university of Ibadan). He participated in an athletics with numerous awards of both local and international, in which he was recorded as the first black African common Wealth Gold Medalist.

However, when Ifeajunna later joined the Nigeria military, he was generally known as the most brutal Nigerian military officer ever.

He was recorded among the plotters of Nigeria’s bloodiest coup together with the following names according to face2facea Africa, they includes, “Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, Timothy Onwuatuegwu, Chris Anuforo, Don Okafor, Adewale Ademoyega and Humphrey Chukwuka. “ After the failed plot, which was prevented by Major – General Johnson Aguiyi – Ironsi, that later took over power to become the first military head of state. Ifeajunna on the other hand to save his life, freed to Benin, then moved to Ghana where he was highly welcomed by Kwame Nkrumah, though didn’t stay long in Ghana before Nkrumah was dethroned from office of president.

Upon that, Ifeajunna betrayed Ojukwu’s trust when was accused of a deadly plan to plot against the Biafra leader amidst the Nigeria civil war in 1967 which brought to his life end. But before he was executed, Ifeajunna disclosed to the Biafrans that it’s too late and that the Nigeria is already among in their midst.

In his word he said “You may kill me now, but I am afraid it is too late. I am sorry for you all because it won’t be long before they get all of you. The Nigerians are already in your midst. “

His statement broke the heart of many Biafrans in the struggle which caused so much annoyance over his act of his terrible betrayal to his brothers.
