A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Ondo State as Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area, was murdered by his abductors even after his family paid a ransom for his release.
According to a report by Naturenex, Adepoyigi was kidnapped last Monday while trying to park his car at his home in Ifon. The kidnappers initially demanded a staggering ₦100 million for his freedom. However, after days of negotiations and emotional appeals from members of the community, the ransom was reduced to ₦5 million.
Tragically, two Ifon residents who volunteered to deliver the agreed sum were also captured upon reaching the kidnappers’ den. The abductors then raised their demands again, asking for an additional ₦30 million to secure the release of all three captives.
While the two volunteers were later released, community sources disclosed a chilling revelation made by the kidnappers — that Adepoyigi had been specifically marked for death by individuals allegedly behind the entire plot.
Confirming the devastating development, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Kolapo Ojo, expressed his growing worry over the deteriorating security in the area. “This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension.”
He called on residents to work together in tackling the growing threat, saying, “We urge our people to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united as we work together to overcome this threat.”
