Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, widely known as E-Money, in connection with accusations of Naira abuse and the defacing of foreign currencies.
According to reports from sources within the EFCC, E-Money was arrested on Monday night at his home located in the Omole area of Lagos State.
The arrest was reportedly prompted by claims that the businessman was involved in the act of spraying United States dollars during public functions, an action said to be in violation of the country’s Foreign Exchange Act.
An official from the EFCC, while speaking to Punch, confirmed, “On Monday night, we arrested E-Money for Naira abuse and defacing foreign currencies. Specifically, he was alleged to have sprayed U.S. dollars, which is against the Foreign Exchange Act.”
It was further disclosed that E-Money is currently being subjected to preliminary investigations, and legal proceedings will follow once the probe is completed.
“He was arrested at his Omole, Lagos residence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the source stated.
Additionally, another insider, who chose not to be named, told Punch that the socialite is being transferred to Abuja for continued interrogation. The source confirmed, “Yes, he has been arrested and is being flown to Abuja as I speak, to face investigators on the issue.”
