Niger Governor Orders Arrest, Harsh Measures Against Individuals Carrying Weapons, Dreadlocks

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has given a firm directive to security agencies to apprehend and classify anyone found carrying knives or sticks within the state as an armed robber.

This development comes alongside the dusk-to-dawn curfew that the state government announced for Minna on Tuesday, aimed at addressing the escalating security challenges.

During a high-level security meeting, Governor Bago also ordered that individuals seen wearing dreadlocks should be taken into custody. He explained that these decisions were necessary steps to tackle the surge of criminal activities disturbing peace in the state capital.

While making his stance clear, Bago declared, “Anyone found in possession of any weapon, including knives and sticks, should be treated as an armed robber, and if killed, the parents must pay for the bullet before releasing the corpse. Anyone keeping dreadlock hair should be arrested and shaved.”

In addition, the governor instructed all district, village, and ward heads to properly record visitors arriving in their communities, cautioning that any residence discovered to be sheltering criminals or drug traffickers would face demolition.

Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to confront criminal elements head-on, pledging to restore security and order across Minna.

In recent weeks, the state capital has witnessed a worrying increase in violent incidents, attacks, and killings, causing unease among residents.
