NYSC Refutes Claims of Extending Corps Members’ Service Year by 3 Months

Abuja, FCT – The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed widespread social media claims suggesting that it extended the service year for Batch A, Stream 1 corps members by three months.

According to Legit.ng, the NYSC made its position clear on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, stating that the information being circulated is entirely false. The organization noted that the statement announcing the alleged extension did not originate from them.

The false information, shared widely across social platforms, claimed that the service extension was the result of a recent policy review. It also mentioned that new orientation dates and updated call-up letters would be issued to prospective corps members.

In reaction, NYSC took to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @officialnyscng, to share the fake announcement, making it clear that the content was fabricated.

The hoax message stated:
“OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
All prospective Corps Member Batch A, Stream 1 scheduled to commence the Orientation Course on 23rd, 2025, are hereby informed the service year has been extended by three (3) months due to recent policy reviews.
Updated call-up numbers/letters and new orientation dates will be communicated shortly.”

In response, the NYSC urged the public to disregard the message and always rely on verified sources for official updates. The agency reiterated that no such extension has been approved and that any valid communication would come directly from its official channels.

The NYSC, a compulsory one-year program for Nigerian graduates under 30, continues to play a significant role in national development and integration. It remains firm on its schedule unless changes are officially communicated.
