The member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State, Amobi Ogah, has openly thrown his weight behind Governor Alex Otti, dismissing his suspension by a faction of the Labour Party (LP) as insignificant.
Ogah’s reaction comes in the wake of the Abure-led faction of the LP announcing the suspension of Governor Otti, Ogah, and other members, accusing them of anti-party conduct.
Addressing the issue in a statement on Wednesday, Ogah made his stance clear, pledging unwavering support for the state governor. He said, “I want to make it clear — the so-called suspension means absolutely nothing to me. I am a mandate of the people and my commitment to Governor Alex Otti and his transformational agenda in Abia remains unshakable.
“Governor Alex Otti is the best thing that has happened to Abia State in decades. I am with him full time.”
The lawmaker appealed to his constituents to remain calm, assuring them that his focus on quality representation and service delivery remains intact. Emphasising his dedication to both the people and the state’s leadership, Ogah added, “No amount of intimidation can stop the will of the people.”
Meanwhile, Governor Otti has reacted to the development, urging the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to swiftly arrest Labour Party’s factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, over allegations of impersonation.
As reported by Naturenex, the Abia State governor rejected his purported suspension, describing the announcement by Abure and his group as both laughable and an insult to democratic principles.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Governor Otti criticised Abure’s actions, branding him “a clown in a desperate search for a crown.”
According to Otti, the claims of suspension are nothing but a desperate tactic by individuals attempting to exploit his name for selfish financial gain. He said, “The attention of His Excellency the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has been drawn to the news of his purported suspension alongside other eminent leaders of the Labour Party from the Party by the former National Chairman of the Party, Julius Abure.
“The statement by Abure and his gang of comedians is not only a joke taken too far, but an affront on democracy by a group of inconsequential irritants who are desperate to use Governor Otti’s name to advance their self-serving economic agenda.”
The governor further recalled that the Supreme Court had already ruled on Abure’s status, stripping him of any authority to act as National Chairman. He noted that a Caretaker Committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman had been established following the judgment.
“Just few hours after being summoned by a Committee Set up by the Senator Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee to come and respond to allegations of gross misconduct bordering on financial misappropriation, impersonation and anti-party activities levelled against him, Abure decided to be smart by half by rushing to the press to announce the purported suspension of Governor Otti and other eminent members of the party.”
Otti called on Nigerians to disregard Abure’s claims, describing the group as “a group of clowns in desperate search of a crown they do not deserve.”
He concluded by urging security and electoral authorities to uphold the law, stating, “Finally, we call on the Inspector General of Police to quickly arrest Mr Abure for impersonation, while INEC should ensure full implementation of the Supreme Court judgement as a way of preserving the integrity of the Supreme Court and protecting our democracy.”
