Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (also known as Winners Chapel), recently reflected on a quote he attributed to the late Pope Francis, describing it as both profound and thought-provoking.
The 70-year-old clergyman shared this insight during a Sunday sermon at Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Ogun State, as he spoke on the value of generosity and selflessness in a believer’s life.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, reportedly passed away at his Vatican residence on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025. His passing continues to stir tributes and reflections from religious leaders around the world, including Oyedepo.
While addressing his congregation, Bishop Oyedepo spoke about receiving a powerful message from an acquaintance who shared a quote from Pope Francis. In the words of the bishop:
“One of my old-time fellows sent me one quote from Pope Francis yesterday. It’s very interesting, he said trees don’t eat their own fruits. They give it to others.”
He went on to describe the quote as “amazing,” noting that it encapsulates the principle of giving and living a meaningful life.
“Amazing things, so, it is how much we give out that defines our worth in life. Pls, be part of that,” he said, encouraging church members to extend care and support to those in need.
Referring to the church’s outreach programs, Oyedepo urged the congregation to get involved in assisting the less fortunate:
“Look at the kingdom care thing going on, what stops any member of this church that is in a position to take a needy each and say Lord for the privilege to be part of this man’s life, this family life, and start watching over that. That’s how you live.”
He concluded the message with a prayerful affirmation:
“The Lord will preserve him and keep him alive because he needs more of such people in the world. No one will die young here, Amen. Thank you, Jesus.”
The message, which was shared in a video by Church Gist on X (formerly Twitter) via the handle @therealchurchg1, quickly drew reactions from followers online.
