Odinkalu Shock: Peter Obi’s N744.5m Legal Fee Exposes The Mess Lawyers & Judges Have Created In Nigeria’s Electoral System

Published by admin on

Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, spent a whopping N744.5 million on litigation following his loss in the 2023 presidential election, according to Aisha Yesufu, the Chairman of the fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation.

This revelation has sparked reactions from various quarters, including lawyer and human rights activist, Prof Chidi Anselm Odinkalu.

Odinkalu expressed surprise that the biggest single line item in Obi’s electoral expenses was legal expenses, rather than media or polling agents.

He attributed this to the mess that lawyers and judges have made of Nigeria’s electoral system.

He wrote on his page;

“Revealing – isn’t it – that the biggest single line item in the electoral expenses of Peter Obi is not media or polling agents but Legal expenses? It’s a consequence of the mess that lawyers & judges have made of Nigeria’s electoral system”.
